Tucked away on the southern shores of the Great Slave Lake, close to the community of Hay River, Castaways Cottages is the perfect spot for a weekend break or week-long getaway in the Northwest Territories.
We offer cosy cottages and comfy rooms, each cottage is equipped with a full kitchen, bath and TV. Our property has 15 beautiful acres of private beachfront so you can relax and enjoy the 24-hour sun in the summertime or the endless shimmering aurora borealis during the winter months. Isolated enough to allow our guests to relax in pristine nature, Castaway Cottages is also 10 minutes from the friendly town of Hay River offering easy access to modern comforts.
If you want a one-of-a-kind experience watching the amazing aurora borealis from a cosy cabin or you’re looking for world class fishing on Great Slave Lake for lake trout, arctic grayling, whitefish and northern pike, you’ll have an unforgettable experience with us at Castaways Cottages. We are a 100% locally owned Indigenous business, with a strong emphasis on showcasing and supporting our Traditional Culture and local Cultural events. Whether this is your first experience north of the 60th parallel, or you’re a local northerner wanting to get away for a quiet weekend, call us and let’s start planning your trip.

Traditional Indigenous Dwellings

Traditional Indigenous accommodations were a sophisticated response to each community’s unique natural environment and lifestyle. Although contemporary Indigenous Peoples in Canada live in modern housing, our traditional dwellings can provide important insight into how we used to live.
