The Nuyumbalees Society was founded in 1975 by Hereditary and Elected Chiefs of the Kwakwaka’wakw People, to negotiate the return of their Potlatch Artifacts and Regalia (kikasuw). The Society has been entrusted with the care and preservation of a priceless and historic collection of original Kwakwaka’wakw Artifacts returned in 1979. Since then the Kwagiulth Museum and Cultural Centre welcomes thousands of visitors each year who come to learn the Potlatch story. Language classes and Cultural programming helps develop greater Cultural capacity in the community.
