VIDEO: Indigenous Voices – Blaire Russell (Blood Tribe – Alberta)
This blog post was written before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when physical distancing and other COVID health and safety protocols were not in effect. The businesses and communities featured in this article may be once again welcoming visitors but please double check as some are only open with limited operations and others have not yet reopened.
We’re proud to introduce the first video in our Indigenous Voices series, created in partnership with Destination Canada. The Indigenous Voices video series tells stories of Indigenous people by Indigenous people.
In this video artist and photographer, Blaire Russell welcomes us to Alberta, and his homeland, as a part of the Blood Tribe – Kainai First Nation.

“I want to invite people in, to learn about us, and to break barriers.”
“The Elders have always said that our DNA goes deep, deep, deep into the soil. It wasn’t actually until I actually experienced the power of some of these stories that I started to realize it is more than just a story. It is an experience.”
