The Cedar House Gallery in Ucluelet specializes in artworks of the West Coast Nations of Vancouver Island, collectively known as Nuu-chah-nulth, which translates loosely to “all along the mountains and sea.” Owner Tlehpika Hjalmer Wenstob is an artist who hails from the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, and most days, you will find him carving in the gallery, with his family around him. Aside from his own often politically motivated works, visitors will find masks, bentwood boxes, jewelry, prints, woven baskets and more created by artists including Agnes Seaweed Wisden and Russell Tate.
