Locally known as Arviligjuaqy, meaning “the great bowhead whale habitat,” Kugaaruk—formerly known as Pelly Bay—is located on the Simpson Peninsula, south of the Gulf of Boothia. Between the bay and the coastal mountains, you’ll find the Inukshuk Hotel sitting on the tundra amongst the rest of the Koomiut Co-op. Here you can see the Inukshuk, photograph Arctic animals in their natural habitat, visit historic campsites where ancient Inuit hunted and fished, and book a guided kayaking tour.
