Dr. Kevin wâsakâyâsiw Lewis created the kâniyâsihk Cultural Camps to preserve the Cree language and promote Traditional Indigenous Culture. Participants experience hands-on activities such as filleting fish, cutting meat, tanning hides and preserving food. They can also take part in first aid, paddling, and Field Leader certification programs, as well as other year-round outdoor activities and storytelling. Perhaps the most important feature of the camps, however, is the kâ-nêyâsihk mîkiwâhpa Cree Academy of Excellence-Immersion School, where Elder’s Helpers teach the Cree language in a beautiful natural setting.
