xawgəs, the Grizzly Bear, return mid-August for the annual salmon run in Toba Inlet. A cycle that has taken place for a millennial on the traditional territory for the Klahoose First Nation people. Here, tall stands of towering cedar trees are interwoven with glacial streams and rocky shores that welcome the arrival of spawning Pacific salmon each year. This breathtaking backdrop draws Grizzly Bears to the yɛkʷamɛn (Toba Inlet) where they socialize with each other and feast on the bounty of fresh salmon. From viewing towers, set along the Klite River we have optimal sight lines to view the bears in their natural habitat. Tours are led by Klahoose First Nation guides and partners. Your visit to our traditional territory brings strength, opportunity and threads our past with our framework of modern life. We welcome you with gratitude. Grizzly Bear Tours depart daily from Campbell River, BC from mid-August to October. An Indigenous wilderness resort experience, with multi-day bear tour packages, is also available at our Klahoose Wilderness Resort.
