Renowned worldwide for its beauty, friendly locals and authentic Gaelic and Acadian cultures, Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton Island is also rich with Indigenous Culture. That’s why Darrell Bernard and his partners started Kluskap Ridge RV & Campground, a unique camping destination on the island.
Owned by residents of Membertou, a Mi’kmaq Nation community, Kluskap Ridge provides a chance for locals to share their traditions with guests, alongside fun campground activities such as outdoor family movies, campfires, arts and craft days, an arcade in the lodge and pottery and leather workshops.
On Thursdays, join in with traditional Mi’kmaq drumming and dancing performers. Jig along with Celtic fiddlers or belt out pop tunes with the karaoke crowd on Saturdays. Spend a sunny day in a heated pool with the kids on the slide and, afterward, listen to Indigenous Elders tell their tales. Camp out in your own tent or trailer or sleep in one of our teepees to dream alongside a traditional firepit for the night. Upgrade your camping experience in our coveted glamping tent, king-sized bed and all.
“We get campers out to teach them about our culture — what, why and how we do things,” says Bernard. “But it’s all blended in with our many social events, which makes the experience seamless and entertaining.”
Kluskap Ridge RV & Campground is in the heart of pristine nature on a tranquil mountain ridge near Englishtown with views overlooking St. Ann’s Bay. The quiet retreat — home to RV and tent sites, vacation apartment rentals, rustic cabins, and teepees — is just one kilometer from the Cabot Trail scenic highway.
