The Maison de la culture innue is a gathering place for groups and solo travellers to discover and share the Culture and way of life of the Innu People of Ekuanitshit. Built on the traditional site of the Ekuanitshit Innu summer camp, facing out over the ocean so we can watch the whales and see the beauty of the Mingan Archipelago. This is a unique place that seeks to foster inter-cultural and inter-generational exchanges; join us for an authentic experience of the traditions of the Ekuanitshit Innu. Our permanent exhibition ‘The World of the Innu of Ekuanitshit’, celebrates Innu Culture in its many forms; explore our language and way of life, learn about what life was like on the islands and on the Nitassinan (“our land” in Innu). Discover the importance of our Elders, the seasonal harvesting of salmon, berries and medicinal plants, and much more. Take a self-guided tour through the exhibit via videos, immersive installations and topographic maps. Spend time listening to our legends and discovering the Ekuanitshit Innu vision through our words. Take part in a traditional drumming workshop, hear the stories behind the drum rituals and learn some drumming basics.
