Join internationally acclaimed executive chef, Murray McDonald on a culinary exploration of the South Okanagan through an Indigenous lens at the Bear, the Fish, the Root and the Berry, at Spirit Ridge Lake Resort. Named after the Syilx People of the Okanagan Nation’s story about the four food chiefs of Skimxist (Bear), Ntytikxw (Salmon), Speetlum (Bitterroot) and Seeya (Saskatoon), Chef McDonald and his team are creating Indigenous-inspired cuisine with locally foraged and artisan-sourced ingredients that honour the key elements of Indigenous cuisine. Savour dishes such as ‘Askawa’ bison tartare, sumac bouillabaisse and wild salmon served up overlooking breathtaking views of Lake Osoyoos and the vineyards of Nk’Mip Cellars, the first Indigenous-owned winery in North America. we’ll make sure you get the most from your adventure. From breathtaking mountains, rivers and ocean to ancient archaeological sites inhabited with abundant Arctic wildlife including seals, walrus, whales, numerous bird species and polar bears, spend a day with our knowledgeable Inuit guides soaking up the beauty and stories of this stunning landscape. If you’re fishing from the boat or trying a cast from the shore, while you wait to land your Arctic beauty, your guide can share stories of history in the area dating back over 750 years to the time of the Thule and modern Inuit occupation of the region. Our passionate local guides can’t wait to share their world with you.

Revitalizing Indigenous culture, one meal at a time

In our traditional cultures, food is harvested, cooked, and eaten with respect. Gathering around a table is an act of community — it is about feeding the mind, body, and spirit at the same time, with food that is thoughtfully harvested and prepared.
